leap

here's an after and before of a small piece on aquaboard entitled "leap", I'm not sure it is finished yet.
I did lose the lovely water color but then, again, the kitschy fence.
Perhaps gained more mystery and subtlety.

The best art has you asking questions.

  1. Yes I really like the change. I would never be brave enough to continue to develop my art the way you do, which is one of the reasons your pieces are so excellent, because you don't stop when it's "pretty", you stop when its done. I think the top version makes the leap seem more airborne.

  2. so, is he leaping into a net or a barrier? It looks like a net, but vertical - so maybe it is intended to be his net but cannot support him. He believes it will - I'm sorry for him. Is he the man that was taught that he was part of a "more perfect union" only to find out, after he had invested in that vision, that he was only part of - what? What is the alternative? Is is worthy of the trust that produced the leap of faith? There are colored squares beneath his leap - reminiscent of blue (with green) and red (with blue), aqua and purple, water and real blood? Is this the red state - blue state thing that he hopes to transcend? The net of safety begins blood-purple, but becomes withered brown. I'm sorry for him. For us.
