This yellow dog keeps showing up in my work. Here he is in a piece entitled, "yellow dog wanders". The story of the prodigal son ( a strip of it, yep, right out of the good book) hangs from the sky, as well as some other messages that I am unable to decipher but perhaps you can.

Another Autumn Air Art (F)air
Mark your calendars for this fine show, SATURDAY NOVEMBER 5, from 11-5pm at the CLIFTON CULTURAL ARTS CENTER. Lots of talented artists, with really good work to sell for reasonable prices. Most people I talked to last year were impressed with the quality and variety of work. I'll be showing alongside my painting partner, Marty Campolo, and if I sell enough of my own work I'll be buying one of her luscious abstracts. I've got about 20 new pieces "simmering" and will post them when they are complete. If this isn't motivation to get there, try this: the Habenero's truck will be near the entrance selling delicious Latin-American goodies. I'm all for eating a burrito while I browse art, aren't you?

A Great show for a Great Cause
Many of you know what a great organization ArtWorks is. You've seen the murals around town, and/or known a talented teen-ager who was employed for the summer. My daughter, Anna, spent a great summer on a sewing project, inspired by images from the Taft Museum.
This year's Secret Show provides a rare opportunity to purchase great work at minimal cost and have your money go to a very worthy cause.
So mark your calendars for either the preview (in the Westin lobby Nov 14-17) or the actual event on November 18th.
And no, I can't show you my pieces.......because IT'S A SECRET!

Golden Ticket
Indeed I have a golden ticket! 2 of my mixed media pieces were accepted into this Clifton Cultural Arts Center event, open to artists within a 5-mile radius. Juried by the Director of the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Assistant Curator of the Contemporary Art Center and the Director of the Weston Gallery, I am thrilled to be a part of this exhibit. Come celebrate with me and 49 other local artists including my partner in painting, Marty Campolo. The opening is this Friday, September 9, 2011 from 6-9pm. For details, including gallery hours, check out cliftonculturalart.org

scraps and symbols, a Labor of Love
A painting for dear family friends. Quite the challenge this one, it's the biggest acrylic canvas I've done (ever) weighing in at 30 x 40 (in). Included and embedded are maps, math problems, music, and more. The struggle to create a painting, rather than an illustration or a page from the family scrapbook kept me busy all summer. Lots of layers of paint, some cursing, do-overs and wipe-outs and and finally, it is finished. Who's next?

new work for the spring fling and the far fetched
Here's a sampling of some new, small work that will be available for sale at the 2nd annual College Hill Spring Fling! All are mixed media collages, nicely framed, and affordable. (No high falutin' gallery prices......we'll be on asphalt, so the art will be marked accordingly.) Get them while they're hot.

a new piece
Check out this new painted piece (commissioned). FOR MORE VIEWS CLICK THE FURNITURE PAGE ON THE RIGHT COLUMN OF THIS BLOG
Check out your attic/basement......any chair, bookcase, etc. hanging around that needs a creative new finish?
I went to this young couples' home to get a sense of their (very cool) aesthetic before tackling this, and would love to do the same for your commissions!

New Year Work; birds,words,love,paint.
"be careful with love"
24x36 acrylic on canvas
New Year work......an experiment with paint and medium. Instead of using paint to "illustrate" a concept (which, frankly, I really love to do) I am in the process of learning how to use paint to "paint" and if a concept shows up, good for it. This painting is days and days of covering up and starting over. It's busy, no doubt, and it could use some more covering up, but for now it's my "sampler" and I'm sticking by it!
